The Lord Baron




Bernard Cyril Freyberg
Birthday: 21 March 1889
Died: 4 July 1963 (aged 74 years)



He was a British-born soldier and Victoria Cross recipient, who later served as the seventh Governor-General of New Zealand from 1946 to 1952.
His nickname was Tiny.
He was a very good athlete and many sports and recreation grounds in New Zealand are named after him, including Freyberg Park in Browns Bay.
 
A strong swimmer, he won the New Zealand 100-yards championship in 1906 and 1910.
